About
Kate Savage

Born in Sussex, England, and raised between the Hudson Valley and Greenwich Village, Kate Savage is the daughter of painter W. Lee Savage and photographer Sally Savage. After attending Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris, Kate moved west to complete her M.F.A. with honors at CSU Long Beach in 1994. As she was finishing her MFA, Kate discovered meditation at a small sangha called Ordinary Dharma in Venice Beach. After living in the greater Los Angeles for about 30 years, Kate and her husband Tom Miller, also an artist, settled near Eugene, Oregon in a 124-year-old house and studio.

Meditation and Mindfulness

Kate's formal meditation practice began in 1993 within Thich Nhat Hanh’s lineage, and later in the vipassana ( or "insight") meditation tradition through Insight LA. Kate graduated Insight LA’s teacher training under Trudy Goodman 2018, and in 2019, was internationally certified as a Certified Mindfulness Teacher-Professional through the IMTA. She’s also a graduate of Mindful Schools yearlong teacher program, Eco Sattva, Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness, and White Awake trainings. Having completed over 70 nights on silent meditation retreats, Kate’s Buddhist study and experience also includes Art and Dharma through Buddhist Center for Buddhist Study, ILA's Dedicated to the Dharma, and Dharma Here and Now with Dave Smith of the Secular Dharma Foundation. Kate’s other significant mentors include Bhikkhu Santikaro, Dr. Christiane Wolf, JoAnna Hardy, Gullu Singh, and Zen lay teacher Ava Louise Stanton, for whom she is forever grateful.
